First introduced in 1954, the Ingenieur was made for scientists and technicians, offering a precise, anti-magnetic watch with great legibility and water resistance.

Early references were designed under the guidance of Technical Director Albert Pellaton and closely resembled other series in the IWC catalogue such as the Portugieser and Portofino. It wasn’t until the 1970’s when the watch received a radical redesign by none other than Gerald Genta, that the Ingenieur became what we know today.

His design featured a tonneau shape case, exposed bezel screws and integrated bracelet, establishing the core visual identity of the Ingenieur for the next 40 plus years. The modern Ingenieur is available in three flavours; a simple three-hander, a chronograph and most recently, a complex perpetual calendar.

While the modern iterations have added some more fashionable features, the core purpose of the Ingenieur remains, offering wearers one of the best anti-magnetic watches on the market.
