More information on this watch and SMITHS / TIMEFACTORS below:-

SMITHS were originally founded in 1851 by Samuel Smith and were most well known for making auto dials and cockpit instruments. They also made clocks and then wristwatches which came to prominence during ww2 when they were one of the famous 'Dirty Dozen' manufacturers who were commissioned by the military to produce watches for service use and to exacting specifications. In 1953 Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay carried a Smiths DeLux 404 watch to the summit of Everest, something SMITHS were only too keen to use in their advertising over the next few years. SMITHS continued to make watches for the British military but by the 1980s had gone out of business.

TIMEFACTORS of Sheffield took on the SMITHS name in the 1990's and have gone on to produce a range of watches that pay tribute to the watches of the past, with vintage styling and touches paired with modern movements and robust construction.
