Enicar Sherpa Graph

Mark IIb Graph c.1964

Ref: 072/001

The Enicar Sherpa Graph is one of the most iconic Chronograph watches ever produced and has become a grail for many collectors. Christened ‘Sherpa’ following Enicar supplying watches for a 1950’s Himalayan expedition the watches were worn and promoted by the likes of Jim Clark and Stirling Moss, two of the era’s biggest motor racing icons.

Enicar was founded in Switzerland in 1914 by Ariste Racine. He reversed the spelling of his last name to come up the name of the company, Enicar as a brand didn’t survive the quartz crisis but in recent years their watches have become very collectible and this reference in particular has shown strong and rising values.

The watch comes with the rare all black dial and even rarer with its original bracelet and clasp. It is in very good all round condition for its vintage with a nice even ‘tropical’ patina developed on the tachymeter scale. The dial is in excellent shape and the crystal has a few small marks. The patented super compressor bayonet case-back still shows the ‘Seapearl’ engraving, some of the case-back engraving has faded through wear but the reference and serial numbers are still clear & legible. It appears to have the original hour and minute hands, the seconds hands varied between pointer and lollipop style from reference to reference and often transitioned between so hard to confirm if it’s original. Research suggests only 600 of the MkIIb were produced and it’s hard to imagine many survive in such good condition today, no more than 15 of the all black dial have been confirmed.

The Valjoux 72 movement has been serviced, regulated and is keeping excellent time. It will be supplied in an aftermarket box.

We are marketing this on behalf of a collector, sensible offers & viewings can be discussed / arranged via message. If you are new to Enicar please take a look at Enicar101.com and enicarforum.com, both excellent resources for information & advice.
