The Speedmaster Reduced was introduced in 1988 as an alternative option to, and based on, it’s Big Brother, the Speedmaster Professional. The original ‘3510.50’ reference had a Hesalite Crystal and water resistance to only 30m. From 2006 until the Reduced was discontinued in 2009 Omega effectively upgraded the Reduced and launched the 3539.50 reference which featured a sapphire crystal covering the dial, improved water resistance of 100m and a bracelet upgrade with a bracelet reminiscent of the Rolex President which featured a push button clasp, all to improve comfort & robustness. ( and arguably looks too)

The dial and tachymeter bezel quite clearly share DNA with the Moonwatch and it’s only on closer inspection you might notice the slight differences in sub dial spacing and placement. It’s a beautiful looking watch and at 39mm diameter / 44mm lug to lug and 13mm thickness it’s less obtrusive and easier to wear for the average wrist.

The movement is the automatic Omega 3220 (ETA 2892 as base, chrono module Dubois-Dépraz 2020 on top) which has a power reserve of 40 hours. It also contains a staggering 46 jewels!

The fact that this reference was only in production for 3 years and was an upgrade to the more ubiquitous 3510 reference means it’s become a more desirable timepiece which are not as easy to come by.
